Seeing the sunrise in Bratislava

Old known fact: You will miss home the most when you are so far from it. So firstly you have to leave your homeworld for some time and not to take anything for granted, then you will begin to appreciate the place where you live. Although not everything is perfect and you could complain about it endlessly...

My close friends wrote me that there was the Christmas atmosphere in Slovakia during the last couple of weeks (at least according to weather) – it was snowing everywhere and public service workers talked about the calamity once again. I like Bratislava the most when the sidewalks are not full of dirty snow-piles or gravel. I love it when the trees are blossoming, the city is waking up in the spring. We still need to wear winter coats, but we can feel when fresh March sunshine is tickling you from back. I can show more cheerful colors and I am afraid that after a short walk (in short skirt without cap and glows) I could get cold.

Keď stretnete len zásobovacie autá a smetiarov.
Maybe during Easter time some snow storm will appear in Slovakia. Or the country will jump from winter straightly to the summer season (without proper spring). I recommend you to observe the sunrise after the walking around the Clocks’ museum and the Jewish Museum up to the castle. Or another kind of walk around the Cathedral of St. Martin through Kapitulská street down to the Klarisky church. The best for it is around 6 o’clock in the morning: just smiling face without make-up. When you meet just supply trucks and garbage collectors.
Thus, how the picture of my lovely city comes to my mind right now. Tomorrow it will probably be completely different reminder of Bratislava. But also the film in my head will be different as well as another people will appear in front of me (and create brand new association)...

Traveller’s destiny in my hands

People are moving freely from one place to another. They are trying to find better life, testing their skills and opportunities. Once they get stucked in an isolated place for some days – it doesn’t have to be unconfortable for them. Finally there is a time for thinking, reading, blogging or checking the movie archives...

Currently I am working in Africa, on the coast of Kenya. The results of Monday’s general election will be announced in next few days, so these days we are supposed to work "from home" (we are not going into the field – because of our safety). After the announcement of the new president people would react emotionally. Post-election violence from 2007 will not be repeated, but we do not want to take a risk. So we bought supplies of water, food and fuel, we charged our credits on the phone and the internet and we are waiting.
This staying inside the house gives me enough time to read all the books I have to read because of school and work duties (about One billion of people on the bottom and Bad Samaritans – not positive reading at all). In this situation human safes a lot of time for thinking, making order of photos from Slovakia, blogging, more looking around and following the mood of the local people. And finally he or she can watch the movies from share-drive – collected many years ago and put into the "to-do"
folder with label: "must watch".

Začínam si plánovať cestu do USA.
So I finally watched Wim Wenders’s film "Paris, Texas". Few years ago one friend recommended me that movie in the express-train from Poprad-Tatry to Bratislava. Many times I saw the title of the movie in the program of movie clubs 901 and Nostalgia, but I haven’t had time to watch it. It should be about the right timing, so now I have got... Inside one inconspicuous house (with magic baobab in the garden) near Mombasa, I am watching it and I am amazed.
Nastassja Kinski reminds me Zuza Fialova there, although she doesn’t look like her, but somehow these two actresses are connected together in front of my eyes. The movie is very simple – more than two-hourlong road-movie across North America, but not boring at all, because the story is realistic, the dialogues are well-written, and the characters pull us into the action with them.
Martin Šútovec mentioned in some interview how he likes the USA – living in motels, driving cars for many hours... Everything is exactly the same – as you remember from books or movies. Even the parched grass-blades lying in front of you on the road are the same as you saw in old western-movie. I'm starting to plan a trip to the USA. Not to the Big Apple, but somewhere around Arizona. As the right “traveller-girl” I will be ready also with a proper caravan. Cauz this is my destiny – to travel as a traveller...
